Advent 1

Happy New Year!  The church year has begun afresh… those of us whose prayer life includes the daily office or liturgy in some shape will turn from the long season of ordinary time to the variations for this new season…  How I’ve felt the impatience the last couple of weeks, ready for new words, words of longing and anticipation…  Making new ipod playlists rich with favourite Advent hymns (O come, o come Emmanuel of course.  The Over the Rhine version especially  – but I can’t find a place to listen to it for free outside of the USA but it’s on itunes and definitely worth it if you have a soft spot for cellos!).

This is a season for imagining a future…  free of tyranny and oppression, full of justice and mercy, of peace and goodwill…

We played this video as part of our ex-ile worship tonight, linking it with Mary’s Magnificat – a vision of radical re-ordering:
